Origins of Valor is the first set in Orbs CCG. It introduces players to the world of Orbs and sets the stage for future expansions. The set features all six colors: Green, Blue, Yellow, Purple, Red and Black. No color is a splash color, which means there's 15 two-color limited archetypes to choose from, each with a unique theme and strategy.
Green-Blue's theme is "Ramp to Massive Minions."
[[Azurewood Sage]]
Azurewood Sage, Green-Blue's signpost uncommon, helps you play expensive cards, as well as being a payoff for your ramp strategy.
Be sure to take some expensive cards like Ageless Hyperion and Leaping Dolphin during the draft so that you have big minions in your deck! At the same time, balance them out with cards that help you ramp your energy like Druid of Leaves and Magic Tuna.
Green-Yellow's theme is "Gain Health."
[[Druid of Butterflies]]
Druid of Butterflies, Green-Yellow's signpost uncommon, has Health Hitter to gain health when it deals damage. It also creates 1/1 Butterfly tokens to help you swarm your opponent, but only if you gained health that turn.
Look for cards that gain health during your draft like Druid of Leaves and Sola's Disciple, as well payoffs like Blessed Pegasus.
Green-Purple's theme is "Sneak to Success."
[[Sneaky Mole]]
Sneaky Mole, Green-Purple's signpost uncommon, will let your minions grow stronger if they successfully deal battle damage to the opponent. In order to make the most of this strategy, you will want to include cards that can help you sneak past defenders.
Cards like Thieving Ant can be payoffs if they get through to the opponent as well. You can use cards like Glyphstone of Cunning to ensure it makes it through, too.
Green-Red's theme is "Energizers Coming and Going."
[[Energizing Rabbit]]
Energizing Rabbit, Green-Red's signpost uncommon, grows stronger for each energizer that entered or left the field this turn. Try energize a card each turn before attacking with it!
You can also use cards like Power Surge and Gentle Dryad to help make more energizers enter and leave the field in any given turn. Power Surge can actually be a combat trick if you use it at the right time!
Green-Black's theme is "Insects Go Wide."
[[Bug Breeder]]
Bug Breeder, Green-Black's signpost uncommon, creates 1/1 Insect tokens to swarm your opponent. Many other cards make Insect tokens, like Wild Entomologist, Crawl Atop, and Swarm of Maggots.
Once you have a wide board, use cards like Night of the Vampires or Ants March In to pump up all your minions, then attack for the win!
Blue-Yellow's theme is "Minions Fly Through the Sky."
[[Sky Captain]]
Sky Captain, Blue-Yellow's signpost uncommon, is the captain of your army of flyer minions! Play lots of minions with Flyer and then attack through the skies!
Look for flyers like Mystic Pelican, Dawn Glider, and Fogform during the draft to compliment your strategy.
Blue-Purple's theme is "The Way of Big Health."
[[Champion of the Way]]
Champion of the Way, Blue-Purple's signpost uncommon, turns all your minions with large full health values into large attackers as well!
You should look for cards like Cavern Barrier, Fogform, Blue Whale, and Leptodirus during the draft, since they have large health values to help you maximize your damage output. For redundancy, also look for Slab of the Way.
Blue-Red's theme is "Invoke the Storm."
It's all about invoking the second card on your own turn, or the first card during an opponent's turn.
[[Storm Elemental]]
In order to achieve this, you'll want to draft cards with Nimble that can be invoked on your opponent's turn, like Forecast, Hellcat, or Fogform. In addition to proactive Nimble cards, also look out for reactive Nimble cards like Deny and Spark Arrow. There are other payoff cards too, such as Heron of the Storm and Storm Chaser.
Blue-Black's theme is "Perfection."
Perfection is all about having minions whose full health is equal to their power (so perfect!).
[[Master of Perfection]]
Master of Perfection, Blue-Black's signpost uncommon, boosts all your minions with perfect stats.
There are plenty of minions like this in both colors, including Alley Prowler, Pufferfish, and Mystic Pelican. It also works with Insect tokens, so cards like Tick Tracker and Crawl Atop can be useful, too.
Yellow-Purple's theme is "Constructive Victory."
This strategy involves cards with the subtype Construct.
[[Quarried Sentinel]]
With Quarried Sentinel, you'll get a big minion, as long as you have other constructs. Just look for constructs like Capturing Mirror, Nexi Trebuchet Team, Wandering Airship, and Glyphstone of Fate to help you build your construct deck!
Yellow-Red's theme is "Elementals Burn Bright."
[[Unbound Radical]]
This strategy focuses on using Elementals and Spark Jars to win the game. (Spark Jar tokens can be used to increment by 1 the next non-battle damage an action card would deal, or increment an Elemental's power by 1 until the next clear.)
For this strategy, you'll want to take cards like Spark Arrow (which creates a Spark Jar token, and can also deal more damage if you use other Spark Jar tokens beforehand), Emberling, Luminous Guardian, or Strike a Spark.
Yellow-Black's theme is "Level Up."
[[Personal Tutor]]
When a minion levels up, you search your deck for a minion card with energy value 1 or 2 greater, whose colors and subtypes are a superset of the original minion's properties. The new card replaces the old one. If you didn't find a card, instead put 2 Boost counters on the original minion.
Mostly you'll want to look for Human cards that are either good minions to be levelled up, or good targets to level up into. Some good minions to level up include Intrepid Adventurer, Dark Acolyte, and Cemetery Caretaker. You can level them up into cards like Nexi Sharpshooter, Dawn Glider, Bonemancer, and Arbiter of Virtue.
Purple-Red's theme is "Attack Early, Attack Often."
[[Keenblade Marauder]]
It has cards that gain benefits as long as you are attacking each turn. For example, Keenblade Marauder will provide you with energy as long as you attacked. Agnu's Hellraisers costs less if you attacked. Stony Brute and Avid Warrior gain benefits if you attacked the turn they enter the field. Surprise Attack can help your attacks succeed.
Purple-Black's theme is "Returned From the Grave."
[[Stitched Ghoul]]
Stitched Ghoul, Purple-Black's signpost uncommon, is a large minion that can put itself into the graveyard from your hand. It has two abilities that can only be activated from the hand, and include a cost "discard this card."
Key cards for this strategy include Perfect Revival, Reanimate the Dead, and Orphaned Girl. Cards that discard, such as Avid Warrior and Secretive Spy, can also be used to put large minions into the graveyard. And of course, you'll want to draft some large minions to bring back as well, such as Renegade Colossus, Zombie Horde, and Dread Demon.
Red-Black's theme is "Secrets, Secrets are Such Fun."
[[Infernal Plotter]]
This strategy focuses on the Secret type, that is, cards you can play face down as a Secret. As long as you have a Secret, Infernal Plotter grows stronger each turn. Be sure to draft other secrets like Devilish Rascal, Swinging Axe Trap, Sudden Fireball, Spike Pit, and Swamp Witch.
