I’m making this post to gauge interest in a regular constructed tournament. Probably a round robin where everyone plays 1 or 3 games against everyone else, or possibly divide it up into two pools if enough players enter. Then the top 2 would fight it out for the victory (or top 4 in a knockout bracket format if there are enough players). Rules would be that you have to enter 1 deck and use it without modifying it for the entire tournament, and post a link to said deck in the tournament thread. Any deck would be legal.

Now that there’s global chat, this could probably happen at a specific time and be easier to organize live. I’d be interested in watching some at least, if I’m available. I might play depending on when it is.

I’ve been gone for a while now, but if this tournament gets scheduled for a time when I’m available I will play. As pickhardt said, we could use the chat feature to organize it live– First, announce a day and time to meet in the chat. Whoever shows up gets paired against each other on the spot, shares their decklist, and we play a little informal tournament.

the only thing I can say is that if I am there, there is a good chance that I am at work, in which case I will be able to play quickly, but I may have to stop unexpectedly for a period of time. between 10 minutes to an hour…

I think a tournament would be more enjoyable to me if there would be a software support for tournaments so that it actually keeps tracks, generates lists, makes tables with rankings and starts async games (live are too slow to me). Therefore, I’m not joining this one.

Also, I have loads of work to do, so available time is shrinking so I don’t play much games, but I hope you’ll guys will have fun and I hope I haven’t spoiled it :-P

I agree that software support and a formalized “tournament” system would be really good.

As for async vs live– while I understand your meaning about live being “slower,” the reality is that every async tournament we have tried has taken between 3 weeks to 3 months to finish an 8-person tournament. So while async may be faster in terms of each chunk of playing time, it is unrealistically slow for the overall tournament UNLESS software support is there to enforce stricter time limits and automatically assign new matchups.

I agree, that has been what’s killed the last couple of tournaments. The other problem with the way they have been done in the past is some players start, then just disappear leaving their games to default. If we want to do a tournament, we probably should all schedule a time to get together and play it live, set aside an hour or two of time either in a single day, or over a couple of weekends. This will be a lot easier to do now that there is global chat. Anybody want to give this a shot next Saturday?

I can’t guarantee I’ll be available at the right time, but I think we should give a try next Saturday and see what happens.

Count me in!

EDIT: One question… what is the right time of day that will work for the largest range of potential participants?

For me, probably between 1 and 4 pm EST is the best time window.

for me, it is terribly unlikely I will be online between 1 and 4 PM EST, and more likely to be between 9 PM and 3 AM EST

I take that back, apparently I have something going on next Saturday. But if you all can get together and make it happen, go for it and let me know how it goes :)

@Gregor– I can probably be available next Saturday for two hours from about 11:30 pm EST (8:30 pm Pacific).

I have a feeling hardly anyone will show up at that time, but it’s worth a try! If nobody shows up, the two of us can just play a couple matches and call it a night.

thank you for reminding me techor, as I also actualy have plans on the 19th.

I may still find a way to be online for a bit solitea, but I will likely not be my best self if you know what I mean.

:) sounds like fun.

If nobody else is planning to show up, I might not be there either. But if we do happen to be on, I’ll be happy to play!

I still think we should try this method for an informal tournament… we just need to pick a day that works for several people.

And a time. I forgot about the time zone issue, as we have players all over the globe :P

Well, how is this going? Have you managed to have any tournaments? I am interested because I am thinking of running another Mono-tournament like the one I have done in the past.

It never did happen, and seeing as there are about 4 regulars playing right now I think it would be extremely difficult to try to run any kind of tournament, unfortunately. I’d love to be able to do some kind of tournament again, though, if the interest arises.
